Current Projects:
Currently the JKW School of Honors Director, I am also a Professor of English, the Honors Association Adviser, and a member of the Women’s History Month Committee and the Holocaust Remembrance Day Committee. I served as the Honors Program co-Director from 2007-2010, will continue my efforts to make the program grow in size and quality, so we can best serve the needs of our brightest students who desire to challenge themselves to do even better. I served as the Coordinator of the Women’s Studies Program from 2003-2012, conducted a series of seminars, sponsored by the Office of Academic Affairs, promoted the Program and organized a Women’s Club at Bergen. I have served as co- advisor of the Polish Culture Club. I was awarded a Princeton Mid-career Fellowship in 2005-2006 and I have twice received awards from The Office of Student Life for continued support of its activities. I am also a member of the Women’s History Month Committee, the Holocaust Remembrance Day Committee, and have served on the Committee on Academic Standing and the Beacon Steering Committee. I co-created the Literary Arts Series in 2002. I served as a founding member and the Bergen representative to the New Jersey Consortium of Women’s and Gender Studies.
Courses Taught: World Literature I, World Literature II, American Literature II, Women in Literature, Eastern European Literature, Central European Literature, Composition I and II, Composition for International Students, online courses.
Publications: My academic career involves publications in comparative literature, modernist and contemporary Polish art, gender issues and women’s writing, and multiple conference presentations. Recently, my article on “The Fabric of Memory: Ewa Kuryluk Textile and Textual (Self-) Representations” appeared in 2007 in “Poles Apart: Women in Modern Polish Culture,” edited by Helena Goscilo and Beth Holmgren, and I authored a book titled “The Theme of Departure in Women’s Travel Narratives 1600-1900: Taking a Leave of Oneself,” 2007.
Special Interests: Running, African dance, art and bike riding.
