PARAMUS, N.J. – The Teaneck-based Puffin Foundation has awarded Bergen Community College’s performing arts department a $2,000 grant in recognition of its recent ARS Electronica: Within the Strings performance. The organization annually provides grants to individuals and organizations that advance the arts.

Directed by Bergen professor Linda Marcel, Ed.D., ARS Electronica: Within the Strings took place March 10 at the College’s main campus and featured the Brooklyn Camerata Ensemble, under the direction of Paul Lee, and tribute band Led Blimpie.

The annual ARS series began at the College in 1995, aiming to integrate varied academic disciplines through the fusion of classical and contemporary performance styles. Past performances have spotlighted global instruments, women in music and contemporary Broadway. Bergen faculty members lead each ARS performance.

The grant will fund talent for ARS Electronica and the efforts of the Bergen Community College Foundation, which provides student scholarships and supports faculty and staff development, emergency funds and other special projects.

Based in Paramus, Bergen Community College (www.bergen.edu), a public two-year coeducational college, enrolls 15,000 students at locations in Paramus, the Philip Ciarco Jr. Learning Center in Hackensack and Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands in Lyndhurst. The College offers associate degree, certificate and continuing education programs in a variety of fields. More students graduate from Bergen than any other community college in the state.
