PARAMUS, N.J. – Gerard L. Carroll joined the Bergen Community College board of trustees April 5, taking the oath of office during a regular meeting of the institution’s governing panel. The Bergen County Board of Chosen Freeholders unanimously appointed Carroll to the College’s board March 30. His term expires Oct. 31, 2019.

Carroll, of Hackensack, has worked as an educator with the Bergen County Technical Schools for nearly 30 years, starting as a drafting teacher and then becoming a program manager. Since 1996, Carroll has served as the district’s “school to careers” coordinator, helping bridge students’ academic pursuits with employment goals. Carroll attended the New Jersey Institute of Technology and Jersey City State College.

Additionally, the board conducted its annual reorganization at the April 5 meeting. The panel unanimously approved the reappointment of E. Carter Corriston as chair, Philip J. Ciarco III as vice chair and Dorothy L. Blakeslee as treasurer. The board unanimously elected Germaine Ortiz as its new secretary.

Based in Paramus, Bergen Community College (www.bergen.edu), a public two-year coeducational college, enrolls 15,000 students at locations in Paramus, the Philip Ciarco Jr. Learning Center in Hackensack and Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands in Lyndhurst. The College offers associate degree, certificate and continuing education programs in a variety of fields. More students graduate from Bergen than any other community college in the state.
