Bergen Community College

Bergen Community College student Derya Betul Ozbey is studying business administration with the goal of working in the financial industry.

“I chose Bergen Community College because it offered me a strong and affordable path toward my academic goals,” said Ozbey, of Lincoln Park. “As an international student, I wanted a college where I could build a solid foundation, maintain a high GPA, and prepare for transferring to a four-year university.”

Ozbey appreciated the diverse student community, along with the opportunities for her to grow both personally and academically. With English being her second language, she admitted to facing some challenges. However, she credits her success to staying focused on her goals, finding support, and managing her time.

“I consistently put effort into my classes, which helped me maintain a strong GPA,” she said.

For the 2026-2027 academic year, Ozbey will serve as the Student Government Association’s (SGA) Chief Justice. She is excited to advocate for her peers in this role and make a difference on campus. 

“Getting involved in campus organizations has helped me grow as a student and develop leadership skills,” said Ozbey.

Ozbey expects to graduate in 2027.

Based in Paramus, Bergen Community College (www.bergen.edu), a public two-year coeducational college, enrolls more than 24,000 students at locations in Paramus, the Philip Ciarco Jr. Learning Center in Hackensack and Bergen Community College at the Meadowlands in Lyndhurst. The College offers associate degree, certificate and continuing education programs in a variety of fields. More students graduate from Bergen than any other community college in the state.
