Office of Testing Services
The Office of Testing Services offers academic placement testing assessments for English and Mathematics to new students intending to enroll at Bergen Community College.
Step #1 – Check for Waiver
- Prior to taking the placement test assessments, please review our testing waiver policy accessible at https://bergen.edu/testing/placement-test-waiver-information
You may not need to take the placement test assessments at all. - Waiver results will be sent to the student’s email address on file and the student’s academic records will be updated accordingly, when applicable.

- Note to Guidance Counselors, Testing Center Staff, and other School Officials
- Please have the students upload the actual waiver request, along with their supporting documents.
- The status of the student’s waiver request goes directly back to the student’s email address on file.
Step #2 – Placement Testing
Students that do not qualify for a waiver are required to take either the Directed Self Placement or ALP/ESL English test and the Mathematics placement test.
In-Person Testing
- In person testing is available, on a walk-in basis.
- There is no fee.
- Bring a valid physical photo ID with you.
- Location: To take an in-person test assessments, report to the One Stop Center, Room OS-102, Pitkin Building (1st floor), at the College’s main campus in Paramus, NJ.
- Schedule:
- Monday through Thursday, 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
- Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
- Note: Schedule subject to change. If you wish to meet with an Academic Advisor/Counselor on the same day, it is best to come/check-in by 2:00 p.m.

Take the Scheduled Test
- Placement test assessments results will be posted to your student academic records account.
- You should be able to view the results or placement status through the Bergen Portal/Self Service
(Hint: Once logged on my.bergen.edu portal, follow Plan and Schedule > Academics > Test Summary menu options).
After Testing – Meet with an Academic Advisor
- You will be able to work with Academic Advising once the placement testing has been satisfied.
