Office of Testing Services
The Office of Testing Services offers academic placement testing assessments for English and Mathematics to new students intending to enroll at Bergen Community College.
Step #1 – Check for Waiver
- Prior to taking the placement test assessments, please review our testing waiver policy
You may not need to take the placement test assessments at all. - Waiver results will be sent to the student’s email address on file and the student’s academic records will be updated accordingly, when applicable.

Step #2 – Placement Testing
Students that do not qualify for a waiver are required to take either the Directed Self Placement or the ALP/ESL English test and the Mathematics placement test.
To access the Directed Self Placement, log into your portal. Both the Math and ALP/ESL tests must be taken in person, on campus.
Note: Make sure to bring photo ID with you. Please arrive before 4:00 p.m. to take the test.
After Testing – Meet with an Academic Advisor
- You will be able to work with Academic Advising once the placement testing has been satisfied.
- To meet with an academic counselor or advisor for help with selecting classes.
