Note: The Office of Testing Services administers non-accommodated academic make-up exams for students who – for compelling reasons such as ill-health, accident, or other extraordinary circumstances – are unable to take scheduled in-class major examinations proctored by the instructor.

Tests or Exams with a Proctor

  • Bergen Community College offers proctored testing/exam administration services ONLY for students currently enrolled at Bergen Community College.
  • More information regarding accommodated testing (this can include extended time, private room, use of a scribe, use of a reader or use of assistive technology) can be found on the Accommodated Testing Information Web page – Click here.
  • No tests will be administered without a valid physical photo identification. Pictures on cellphones or other devices are not allowed.

Classroom Exams/Tests Schedule

  • Days: Monday to Friday.
  • Start time:  between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Classroom Exams/Tests Collection

  • Monday to Thursday: All tests/exams will be collected at 5:45 p.m.
  • Friday: All tests/exams will be collected at 4:45 p.m.

Instructor’s Information

  1. Complete a separate request form for each student and for each examination.
  2. Deliver the completed request for the appropriate examination with all required materials. (e.g. Scantron, Blue Book, etc.) or place in the secure lockbox outside the One Stop Center.
  3. The Office of Testing Services does NOT administer the following:
    • Canvas tests or other computer based exams;
    • Tests that are less than 30 minutes long;
    • Tests for an entire class;
    • Quizzes and Retests;
    • Cover sheets that contain incomplete or unclear instructions;
    • Tests with open-ended deadlines or no time limits;
    • Submissions via interoffice mail, email, or fax for reasons of security;
    • Partially completed tests that were started in the classroom.
  4. Testing Services is not responsible for contacting instructors for any discrepancies pertaining to administering an exam.

Student’s Responsibility

  • Students must abide by the Testing Center policies and procedures below.
  • Students are also strongly encouraged to reach out to their instructors first for assistance.
  • Know the deadline to take your examination set by your instructor.
  • Give yourself enough time to complete your examination.
  • Bring all permitted materials (i.e. calculator, pens/pencils, dictionaries, etc.).
  • Know your instructor’s last name. The Testing Office cannot administer an exam without an instructor’s name.

Testing Center Policies and Procedure

  • Students who are caught cheating are not allowed to use the Testing Center services.
  • Turn off cellphones and all other electronic devices and keep them stored out of sight.
  • Absolutely no food or drinks during test session.
  • Place all textbooks, notebooks, and other belongings not required for your test stored out of sight.
  • Only materials permitted by the instructor may be used during the test.
  • Keep your student identification card available at all times during the test.
  • Keep track of the time permitted for your test. Test takers are responsible for completing their tests within the time limit imposed by the instructor.
  • Test takers must have the permission of the testing proctor or the OTS staff to leave the test session before the test is completed. Instructor will be notified if time out of the session exceeds 5 minutes. Testing time will not be adjusted should student leave the testing session. Students must leave cell phones and all belongings at their station.
  • Test takers will not be permitted to return and complete an exam at a later time without permission from the instructor.
  • Under no circumstances shall a test taker leave the test session with a test.
  • Test takers will surrender the test and test materials to the OTS staff member immediately upon request.
  • Students will be considered a “No Show” if they do not complete a make-up exam left in the Testing Center by its deadline and will need to make arrangements with their professor for the remainder of the semester.
  • Testing Services is not responsible for contacting professors for any discrepancies pertaining to administering a classroom/make-up exam.

Please note:

  1. The Office of Testing Services cannot answer specific questions over the phone about a student or the student’s examinations.
  2. All students must come to the office in the One Stop, Pitkin Education Center (1st Floor) with government issued photo identification to receive specific information about an examination in The Office of Testing Services.
  3. Third parties never receive specific information about a student as per The Family Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
